During our recent Bali trip, we had the pleasure of staying at both Wapa di Ume properties: two nights in Ubud and two nights in Sidemen. Staying at both gave us a well-rounded perspective on the brand, as each resort offers a very different setting and atmosphere while maintaining a consistent standard of service.
Below is a structured breakdown of our experience at both properties.

Wapa di Ume Ubud – A Tranquil Escape Near the Heart of Ubud
Location and atmosphere
Located just outside central Ubud, the resort is close enough to town for convenience but far enough to feel peaceful and surrounded by greenery. The property is set along rice fields and tropical vegetation, creating a quiet environment despite Ubud being a busy destination.
The resort also offers a complimentary shuttle service to Ubud centre, making it very convenient to explore the town without needing to arrange private transport.

Our One Bedroom Pool Villa
For two nights, we called a One Bedroom Pool Villa home — and what a home it was.
Spacious yet intimate, traditional yet refined, the villa perfectly blends Balinese architecture with modern comfort. The highlight, of course, was our private pool overlooking the tropical greenery. Early mornings here felt magical — rice fields, birds singing, and complete privacy.
It was one of those villas you genuinely don’t want to leave.
In addition to private pool villas, the resort also offers several other accommodation categories such as Lanai Rooms, Di Ume Suites, and Family Pool Villas — making it suitable for different travel styles and budgets. We recommend checking their official website for the full list and detailed room descriptions.

Floating Breakfast & Dining Experiences
One of our favourite moments? Floating breakfast in our private pool.
There’s something undeniably special about starting your morning surrounded by nature, fresh tropical fruits, warm pastries, freshly prepared dishes, and great coffee — all beautifully presented on a floating tray. It’s indulgent, yes — but also peaceful and unhurried.
We also enjoyed both lunch and dinner at the resort’s restaurant – Mr. Wayan, where the menu blends authentic Indonesian flavours with international options. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully plated, and full of flavour.
In the afternoon, guests can also enjoy complimentary afternoon tea, served in a relaxed setting overlooking the greenery — a lovely daily ritual that adds to the overall experience.

Dinner experiences and entertainment
The first night we experienced the resort’s cultural dinner — a highlight of our stay.
As we enjoyed a carefully curated Indonesian buffet, local performers took the stage with traditional Balinese dances. The vibrant costumes, expressive storytelling, and live music created such an intimate cultural atmosphere. It didn’t feel staged for tourists — it felt authentic, respectful, and immersive.
The next day there was an acoustic night at the restaurant, guests could enjoy their meal accompanied by soft live music to set a lively yet peaceful atmosphere.

Spa, Massage & Flower Bath
No Bali stay is complete without a proper spa ritual.
Our Balinese massage was deeply relaxing — firm, rhythmic, and grounding. The therapists were intuitive and professional, instantly making us feel at ease. After the massage, we enjoyed a flower bath — petals floating across warm water, soft lighting, and pure tranquility. It was the perfect reset.

Overall Impression – Ubud
Wapa di Ume Ubud is a solid choice for travellers who want:
- Proximity to Ubud center
- A private villa experience
- Cultural touches within the resort
- Good dining options on-site
- Convenient shuttle access to town
- Daily afternoon tea included in the stay
It works particularly well for couples looking for privacy while still being near the main attractions of Ubud.

Wapa di Ume Sidemen – A Hidden Gem in the Valley
After Ubud, we transferred to Sidemen — and the energy shifted beautifully.
If Ubud is cultural and vibrant, Sidemen is serene and untouched. Surrounded by rice fields and dramatic mountain views, Wapa di Ume Sidemen feels like Bali from another era — quieter, slower, deeply connected to nature.
The Wapa Lux Tent – A Unique Stay
We stayed in their newest addition: the Luxury Pool Tent.
This was not just a tent — it was elevated glamping at its finest. A perfect fusion of adventure and luxury, with a private pool overlooking the valley. Waking up here felt surreal — soft morning light over the river, mist dancing between the hills, and absolute silence except for nature.
The design felt warm and organic while still offering full comfort. It was intimate, romantic, and unlike any typical hotel room experience.
Guests staying in the Wapa Lux Tents also have access to an exclusive VIP area reserved only for tent guests, creating an even more private and elevated atmosphere.
Beyond the Wapa Lux Tents, the resort also offers other room categories such as Deluxe Rooms, Suites, and Pool Villas. We recommend checking their official website to explore the full range of accommodation options.

Floating Breakfast & Dining with a View
Yes — we had floating breakfast again. And no — it did not get old.
In Sidemen, it felt even more magical. The setting itself elevates everything. Fresh juices, tropical fruits, Indonesian specialties, and good coffee enjoyed with mountain views? That’s the kind of morning routine we could get used to.
Lunch and dinner at the restaurant – The Sleeping Gajah Kitchen & Lounge, were equally memorable. The atmosphere here feels very quiet and the quality remains consistently high. Every meal felt fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully crafted.

Guests can also enjoy daily afternoon tea here, served in a peaceful setting overlooking the valley — a perfect mid-day pause surrounded by nature.
Additionally, there is a dedicated cocktail hour exclusively for Wapa Lux Tent guests — a beautiful touch that makes the experience feel even more special and personalised.

Spa Ritual in the Valley
We once again indulged in a Balinese massage followed by a flower bath — and somehow, in Sidemen, it felt even more serene.
Perhaps it’s the surrounding silence. Perhaps it’s the mountain air. Either way, the entire spa experience felt deeply calming and restorative.

Overall Impression – Sidemen
Wapa di Ume Sidemen is ideal for travellers who want:
- A remote, scenic environment
- A unique accommodation concept (Luxury Pool Tent)
- A slower pace of stay
- Fewer crowds and more privacy
- Exclusive VIP touches for Lux tent guests
It’s particularly suited for couples or anyone wanting to disconnect.

Ubud vs Sidemen – Which One Would We Choose?
Honestly? We wouldn’t.
Ubud offers cultural richness, accessibility, and that classic Bali vibrancy while still providing jungle privacy inside the resort.
Sidemen offers seclusion, raw natural beauty, and a slower pace that allows you to fully disconnect.
Together, they complement each other perfectly. If you have the time, we highly recommend combining both — just like we did.
Final Thoughts
What truly stands out at Wapa di Ume — in both locations — is the genuine warmth of the staff. The hospitality never felt scripted. Every smile, every conversation, every small detail felt sincere.
Luxury is beautiful design and private pools, yes.
But true luxury is feeling cared for.
Our four nights between Ubud and Sidemen felt balanced, indulgent, cultural, and deeply relaxing — everything we love about Bali wrapped into one seamless experience.
If you’re planning a Bali escape and want a combination of culture, romance, nature, and comfort, Wapa di Ume might just be exactly what you’re looking for.
